Short answer: Snapchat’s own desktop app has no lenses, and Snap Camera shut down in January 2023, but you can still use Snap lenses on desktop with Streamfog. It’s a free app that runs lenses built on Snap’s Camera Kit, either live on your webcam (as a virtual camera for OBS, Streamlabs, Zoom and Discord) or on a video you’ve already recorded, using the Video tab.
This guide covers what happened to Snap Camera, what works in 2026, and how to set up Snapchat desktop filters for both live and recorded video.
What Happened to Snap Camera?
Snap Camera was Snap’s official desktop app that turned your webcam into a Snapchat Lens-powered virtual camera. It worked beautifully for Zoom calls, Twitch streams, and OBS — basically anything that accepted a webcam input.
Then, on January 25, 2023, Snap shut it down. No replacement, no migration path, no successor. Just a retirement notice and a download that stopped working.
For the full backstory and what replaced it, see our Snap Camera alternative page. The short version: Snap pulled the plug, and a lot of streamers and creators were left looking for a replacement.
Can You Use Snapchat Lenses on Desktop in 2026?
Not through Snapchat itself. Here’s the current reality:
- Snapchat’s desktop app exists but is essentially a stripped-down messaging client. No lenses, no camera effects.
- Snapchat on mobile still has full lens support, but that doesn’t help desktop users.
- Snap Camera is gone and won’t be coming back.
- Snap’s Lens Studio lets you build lenses but not use them casually on your desktop.
So there’s no native Snapchat filter app for PC from Snap in 2026. What does exist is Streamfog, which runs Snap-powered lenses on desktop for both live and recorded use.
Desktop Alternatives for Snapchat Lenses in 2026
For Live Streaming and Video Calls
If you want lenses on your face during a Twitch stream, YouTube Live, Zoom call, Discord call, or OBS session, use Streamfog. It works the way Snap Camera did: it takes your webcam, applies the lens in real time, and passes the result to whatever app is listening.
- Windows and Apple silicon Macs (M1 and newer): Streamfog installs a virtual camera. Pick “Streamfog” as your camera in OBS, Streamlabs, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, or Discord.
- Intel Macs and Linux: add Streamfog to OBS as a browser source.
On top of lenses, Streamfog adds things Snap Camera never had: VTube avatars, background blur and greenscreen, beauty filters, and effects your Twitch chat can trigger. If you’re on a Mac, see our Mac guide. For the wider list of webcam effects, see webcam filters.
For Recorded Video (Post-Production)
This is where most “Snap Camera replacement” guides fall short. If you filmed something and want to apply a lens after the fact, to a video file you already have, a virtual camera on its own won’t help. It only works on live input.
Streamfog’s Video tab covers this. You import a clip, apply any lens from the Streamfog library, preview it on your footage, and export the finished video with the lens baked in. It runs on Mac and Windows.
How Streamfog Uses Real Snap Lenses
Streamfog is built on Snap’s Camera Kit, the same technology that powers Snapchat lenses. You’re getting lenses that run on Snap’s own engine, not generic look-alike effects. (It isn’t a copy of the old Snap Camera lens library, though. The lineup is Streamfog’s own.)
On a recorded clip, the Video tab works through your video frame by frame: it detects your face, tracks it through the clip, and renders the lens on top.
What kinds of lenses are available?
- Beauty and skin-smoothing lenses
- Face-tracking overlays (glasses, hats, animal ears, masks)
- Stylized looks and cinematic effects
- Comedic and reactive AR lenses
Step-by-Step: How to Apply Snapchat Lenses to Video on Desktop
Step 1: Download Streamfog
Go to streamfog.com/download and install the free app for Windows, macOS, or Linux. Sign in with a free account.
Step 2: Pick a Lens
Browse the lens library and choose the effect you want.
Step 3: Use It Live
Select Streamfog as your camera in OBS, Streamlabs, Zoom, Teams, Meet, or Discord, exactly where you used to select Snap Camera. On an Intel Mac or Linux, add Streamfog to OBS as a browser source instead.
Step 4: Or Apply It to a Recorded Video
Open the Video tab, drag in your clip (MP4, MOV, WebM, or AVI), pick a lens, and preview it on your footage. Hit Export and Streamfog renders an MP4 with the lens applied and your original audio kept.
Lens exports are free with no watermark. Exports with a beauty look carry a small Streamfog watermark unless you have Beauty Pro.

The short version: Streamfog covers both jobs Snap Camera’s users are looking for, live lenses on your webcam and lenses on a video you’ve already recorded.
Common Use Cases
Streamers
You want lenses, avatars, or chat-triggered effects on your stream. Install Streamfog, pick a lens, and select it as your camera (or OBS browser source). Your setup stays the same as it was with Snap Camera.
Social Media Creators
You filmed content and want to add a Snapchat-style lens before posting to TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts. The Video tab handles this on desktop, with no re-recording and no uploading to a web app. See our guides on AR filters for TikTok videos and AR filters for Instagram Reels.
Casual Users
Birthday clips, vlogs, reaction videos: anything where you want a fun lens on footage you’ve already shot. Import it into the Video tab, pick a lens, export.
