Comparison based on public information at time of publication. Streamfog's virtual camera on Mac needs Apple silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS 13 or newer.

Set up Streamfog on an Apple silicon Mac

Any Mac with an M1 chip or newer. Streamfog walks you through each step in its setup screen.

  1. Install Streamfog

Download the Mac DMG, move Streamfog to Applications, open it, and sign in. The same universal DMG works on every Mac.

  2. Approve the camera extension

Click Start Setup when Streamfog asks. macOS opens System Settings: go to Login Items & Extensions > Extensions > Camera Extensions and turn on Streamfog Virtual Camera. Back in Streamfog, click "I enabled it", and restart Streamfog if the camera does not appear yet. You only do this once.

  3. Pick a lens and select the camera

Choose a lens in Streamfog, then pick Streamfog Virtual Camera as the camera in your app. If that app was already open, quit it fully and reopen it so it sees the new camera.

Where to select Streamfog Virtual Camera

  • OBS: Sources (+) > Video Capture Device > Streamfog Virtual Camera
  • Zoom: Settings > Video > Camera
  • Discord: User Settings > Voice & Video > Camera
  • Google Meet: Three-dots menu > Settings > Video > Camera

On Mac, the virtual camera renders inside Streamfog. Keep Streamfog open while you stream or call; quitting it stops the feed.

Intel Mac

On an Intel Mac? Use the OBS browser source

Streamfog installs and runs on Intel Macs, but Streamfog Virtual Camera needs Apple silicon. Instead, Streamfog runs inside OBS as a browser source, and OBS passes it on to your other apps. The in-app setup walks you through it.

  1. Launch OBS from Streamfog

Install Streamfog, choose OBS in setup, and click Launch OBS. When OBS is opened from Streamfog, macOS shares the camera permission with the browser source. Opening OBS on its own will not.

  2. Add the browser source

Copy the URL Streamfog shows you. In OBS, click + under Sources, choose Browser, and paste it. Your lens now runs inside your OBS scene.

  3. Other apps: use OBS Virtual Camera

For Zoom, Discord, Teams, Meet, Slack, or Streamlabs, click Start Virtual Camera in OBS and choose OBS Virtual Camera in that app. Keep OBS open while you use it.

Not sure which Mac you have? Open the Apple menu > About This Mac. A chip named Apple M1 or newer is Apple silicon; a processor named Intel is an Intel Mac.

Need this for Zoom or Teams calls?

Runs on this Mac

Streamfog works in Zoom, Teams, and Meet, but it is built for lenses and streaming. Streamfog on Mac: FAQ

Can you use Snapchat filters on a Mac?
Yes. Streamfog runs Snap AR lenses and face filters on your Mac using Snap's official Camera Kit. On Apple silicon Macs (M1 and newer) it adds a camera called Streamfog Virtual Camera that you can pick in OBS, Zoom, Discord, Google Meet, Teams, Slack, and other apps. On Intel Macs, the lenses run in OBS as a browser source.
Is there a Snap Camera for Mac in 2026?
No. Snap shut down Snap Camera on January 25, 2023, and removed the download for Mac and Windows. Streamfog does the same job on a Mac today: AR lenses and face filters delivered as a virtual camera, plus beauty filters, background blur, greenscreen, and VTuber avatars.
What is the best face filter app for Mac?
For lenses, face filters, and streaming, Streamfog: it is free to download, ships one universal DMG for every Mac, and works as a virtual camera on Apple silicon. If you only want a natural beauty touch-up for Zoom or Teams calls, ClaraCam, which we also make, is lighter and built only for that.
Does the Streamfog virtual camera work on Intel Macs?
No. Streamfog installs and runs on Intel Macs, but Streamfog Virtual Camera needs Apple silicon and macOS 13 or newer. On an Intel Mac, Streamfog's setup launches OBS for you and adds Streamfog as a browser source. To use your lenses in Zoom, Discord, Teams, or Meet, start OBS Virtual Camera and pick it in that app.
How do I approve the Streamfog camera extension on macOS?
The first time, click Start Setup in Streamfog. macOS opens System Settings; go to Login Items & Extensions > Extensions > Camera Extensions and turn on Streamfog Virtual Camera. Then click "I enabled it" in Streamfog, and restart Streamfog if the camera does not appear right away. You only need to do this once.
Why does Streamfog Virtual Camera not show up in Zoom or OBS?
Open Streamfog first, then quit the other app completely and reopen it so it detects the new camera. If you use Zoom, Meet, Teams, or Discord in a browser, quit the whole browser, not just the tab. If you just approved the camera extension, restart Streamfog.
How do I use Streamfog with OBS on a Mac?
Two ways. On Apple silicon you can add a Video Capture Device in OBS and pick Streamfog Virtual Camera. On any Mac you can use the browser source: let Streamfog launch OBS so the browser source gets camera access, then add a Browser source in OBS with the URL Streamfog gives you. If you only stream from OBS, the browser source is recommended because it performs better.
Does Streamfog work with Streamlabs on Mac?
Streamlabs does not support the Streamfog browser source. On an Apple silicon Mac, add a Video Capture Device in Streamlabs and pick Streamfog Virtual Camera. On an Intel Mac, Streamfog's setup routes your lenses into Streamlabs through OBS Virtual Camera, or you can stream from OBS directly.
Do I need to keep Streamfog open?
With the virtual camera, yes. On a Mac the virtual camera renders inside Streamfog, so quitting Streamfog stops the feed. With the OBS browser source, your lens runs inside OBS.
Can I use my own lenses or my old Snap Camera lenses?
Streamfog is not a one-click mirror of every old Snap Camera lens. You can upload your own lenses made in Lens Studio (version 5.6 or newer; 5.16 is recommended), or hire an artist to build them for you.
Is Streamfog free on Mac?
Yes. Streamfog is free to download and use on Mac, Windows, and Linux. Beauty Pro is optional and removes the watermark from beauty filters.
What about a beauty filter for Zoom or Teams calls on my Mac?
Streamfog works in Zoom, Teams, and Meet on Apple silicon Macs. If a natural touch-up for meetings is all you need, ClaraCam is the better fit: a lightweight app only for beauty, processed on your computer, for Apple silicon Macs with macOS 14 or newer.
